A Swiss Laduree

Favorite of favorites Ladurée has opened a boutique in Geneva. I don't often go to the swiss city, but still, it's somehow comforting to know that their sublime delicacies will be available outside of Paris. I know that they have also opened a store in Harrod's, London. That is definitely good news since I plan to move there in the coming months. When I lived in Paris for a year, back in 1998, I developed an obsession for their rose macarons and of course the ambiance and deliciously decadent décor (unintended alliteration overload). The years have passed and Ladurée still takes up valuable space in my memory.

An hour spent there is an otherworldly experience, a welcome respite from the contagious "Paris Blues" or should I call them "the mean reds" à la Holly Golightlly? I don't think anyone is immune to this maladie in the city of lights. No matter how much you love Paris, if you live there for an extended period of time you slowly morph into a nostalgic, frequently ill-humored but ultimately überchic Parisian. I could always rely on Ladurée to cheer me up on one of those grisaille laden days. So, thank you, merci beaucoup Ladurée, I won't forget you.
My interest has been further reawakened with Sofia Coppola's "Marie-Antoinette," since they were exclusive pastry consultants and their creations feature prominently in the film. Ladurée fits in perfectly with the themes of decadence, excess, and pleasure which so characterize Marie-Antoinette's legacy.

Vive Ladurée!

I adore it since I also know Ladurée in Paris and yes I like everything they do with rose petals, delicious.
But I used to go to their restaurant ,but now I don't
enjoy it; for me it's not as good as it was.
Reading your comments I feel like going there again.
Thank you.

wow, love your blog (I couldn't link to it before for some reason) and totally relate to the Paris mean reds! I saw the 'Marie-Antoinette collection' at Laduree in Paris but I didn't buy. Do you think Sofia gets free macaroons for life now?

elizabeth-I agree with you about the restaurant. I went last year, (champs-elysees) and the food left much to be desired. But I'm happy with their pastries and decor, they make up for any shorcomings.

LIB-Haha, I bet she does! I think you mentioned in your blog that you were looking for that french Vogue, Sofia edited? I had it and I still remember how she put pictures of macarons everywhere. I guess it was done while she was filming MA in Paris.

I just feel like bitting that StHonoré and having the whole pink cream all over my face like a five year old.

Ladurée in Geneva?! Could NYC possibly be next? I don't remember seeing anything like this pink beauty when I was there in May..is it a SWiss "special" or a Marie A. number? I really don't think I have it in me to fault them for anything..It was just plain dreamy IMO. Maybe that's why Paris has these out-of-this-world places to get over the mean reds or the grey skys.

Carol- It would be great if they opened one in NYC! The pink beauty is a St. Honoré à la framboise. I saw it on their website under "les patisseries". About the Sitges pictures they're in the "corpus Christi" post.
